TEMPTATION

Katelyn Burch, 19

There comes a point in the journey
a perfect time to walk alone
I see familiar faces
far away
and I’m so far from them
Friends having so much fun
without me

All I have to do is cross the road
take a step
just one step
I reach out my foot to test the blacktop. Zoom!
A car flies past. I guess this is a warning
to make me realize
the road I’m walking
the clean way
the righteous way
the straight and narrow path
is where I need to be

We walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NRSV)

I understand it’s something special
I’ve worked hard to be here
It’s just hard to walk alone
My heart screams under pressure
because righteousness
isn’t the easy way
Sometimes on this lonely walk
my only friend is Jesus
I walk by faith

5-SECOND PRAYER: God, walk beside me on the straight and narrow road. Amen.
