I’m going to check Instagram for just five minutes,” we say. Then an hour later, we look up and realize how much time has passed.

Recently, I took a social media break. I expected to suffer severe withdrawal, but I actually experienced freedom. Instead of spending my spare time in front of a screen, I could focus on life. With more time to relax, I also felt more energetic and positive. What if we used the time we waste on our screens to deepen our relationship with God?

The world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever.
1 John 2:17 (NRSV)

#disconnect: Social media pulls us into a comparison game, and we become jealous. Often we feel as if we are missing out on the next best thing. But most of our day-to-day lives look nothing like the “highlight reels” we see on social media.

So take a break. Disconnect from social media, and instead spend time praying or doing good. Ask God to reveal whatever you need to know.
