Yoshida Santana & Kate Underwood

For a promotion in my job, I had to go before a board panel and answer questions to prove that I would be a good leader. I started rehearsing what I would say and how I would present myself. I have never liked speaking in front of people. And at that time I hadn’t been in the United States for long, so I didn’t feel confident speaking in English.

While I waited for my turn with the panel, I started thinking: There’s no way I can do this. I’m so nervous that I’ll make a fool of myself. Then I thought, It’s true. I can’t do this. But God can. God can give me the strength and confidence I need. I take comfort in knowing that on my own, I can’t do all this. There’s something great about resting in the power of God.

Christ gives me the strength to face anything.

KEEP GROWING: One key part of adulting is being open to change. When I was in high school, I hated speaking in front of groups. Yet in college, I decided to become a teacher. I never would have imagined myself in front of a classroom, but I had grown and gained new skills and greater confidence. And 20 years later, I am still finding new areas in which to grow. Don’t be afraid to try something that scares you. Let’s always keep growing and learning new things!
