Rebecca Wu, 19

Rebecca Wu F.04.03One of the best decisions my mom made was to become a full-time mom. Right after Mom completed the requirements for her master’s degree, my sister was born; and later on, I was born. Since Dad was studying to become a pastor, some people, including my parents’ families, found it odd that Mom did not choose to earn an income to support her husband and children. What they could not see was the vast amount of time and love she invested in caring for us.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

My mom believes that passing down the faith is more important than passing down material comforts. She passes down faith in Jesus through her example. She has given my sister and me a glimpse of what God’s love is like by loving us unconditionally and by putting our needs before a career. She did not choose things that could be seen: paychecks, praise from other people, position. Instead, in faith, she has followed Christ’s footsteps and devoted her time to loving the people God has entrusted to her. The world may not have a reward for my mom, but I know her reward will be great in heaven.

REFLECTION: What have your parents taught you about God? How have they been an example of faith?
