What Is Self-Injury?

Many teens and adults think of self-injury only as cutting, but SI includes a variety of behaviors in which an individual intentionally inflicts harm to his or her body. Today’s devo talks about burning, scratching, pulling hair, and other ways people harm themselves on purpose in order to deal with the pain they have locked inside.

Learn more about self-injury and the behaviors associated with it. Find out how to help your friends who self-injure, and learn ways to cope with stress and negative feelings.

Share this information with your parents or your youth leaders if you or someone you know is struggling with self-injury. Or ask them to read and discuss with you the stories in devozine this week.

Abusing our bodies is a sign that we need healing. Please ask a trusted adult for help today.
