Awaiting the Birth

Robert Porter

This Advent season,
I wait
for peoples’ lives to be filled
not only with lists of things to do,
but with the real and present love of God.

I wait
to see the joy of giving,
not only to those who have enough
but to those in need.

I wait
for the sound of angel wings
to rise above the ring of cash registers, and

I wait
for the promised peace that comes
when people stop their frantic preparation
and kneel
before the manger.

You do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.
1 Corinthians 1:7 (NIV)
