The temple courts were filled today
The noise of Pharisees
A woman caught, they dragged her in
Her crime adultery

Did Jesus judge? Read John 8:1–11, the story of the woman caught in adultery.

And when they set her in his midst
They snapped their tongues and lying lips

They looked to accuse him
Through Moses and the law
Then Jesus stooped to the ground
I was amazed by what I saw

With one finger he wrote on the ground
Just what I couldn’t tell
The screaming and confusion
“Stone the woman,” they yelled

Then rising to their judgment
Jesus shouted his reply
“Let he among you without sin
cast a stone upon this child.”

Once again Jesus, stooping down,
Wrote something on stony ground
One by one they dropped their stones
And left the woman all alone

Then rising to her side
And speaking to her shame
“Woman, where are your accusers?”
“There is no one here, Lord,” she exclaimed

“Then go and sin no more.
Woman, go and sin no more.”

Yes the temple courts were filled today
The noise of Pharisees
And now a woman’s tears of joy
Fill the courts for all to see.

TRY THIS: Read again John 8:1–11, and listen for words or phrases that stand out. Write them in your journal or on an index card as a reminder of the way Jesus wants you to live.
