I Hear Many Calls

Adrian Agachi

Many calls I hear each day.
The call of money: “I can buy you everything.”
The call of pleasures: “We’re all you need.”
The call of needs: “We’re all you have.”
The call of worries: “We’ll never leave.”
The call of pains: “We’ll come anyway.”
The call of ancestors: “Live your life in a worthy way.”
The call of the unborn: “Live so that we may remember you.”
The call of studies: “We are the means to your career.”
Many other calls I hear.
Yet one is the greatest of all,
one that cannot be ignored but only followed,
one that is eternal,
one that many people leave aside,
lending an ear to other calls.
This is the call of God: “Be yourself, a person
with whom I share my love eternally.”
