What is the purpose of the “Go Viral” Video Challenge?

devozine is calling for submissions of original videos, 2 minutes or shorter, designed to inspire a better world.


Who can participate?

The “Go Viral” Video Challenge is open to all young people between the ages of 14 and 20, without any restrictions of gender, race, nationality, or religion. Participants may be an individual, a group of friends, or a youth group.


What is the timeline for the “Go Viral” Video Challenge?

> Contest Launch: May 1, 2012

> Submission Deadline: August 15, 2012

> “LIKE” Your Favorite Videos: September 1–16, 2012

> Most-Liked Videos Featured: Beginning September 22, 2012


How can I take the challenge and submit my video?

To enter the “Go Viral” Video Challenge:

  • You must first upload your video to YouTube and copy the link.
  • Then click the big red SHARE YOUR CREATIVE WORK button on, select VIDEO in the drop-down menu, and complete the online form, pasting in the YouTube link to your video.
  • In the Description/Caption field, be sure to type “VIDEO CHALLENGE” and then add a description of your video and why you believe this message should go viral.
  • By checking the box at the bottom of this form, you declare your agreement with the terms and conditions of the “Go Viral” Video Challenge.

All entries will be processed online. You must submit your video and related information by midnight CST August 15, 2012. You will receive confirmation that the video has been received. Please note that once the video has been submitted, it may not be edited or resubmitted with edits.

How will the favorite videos be chosen?

All eligible videos will be posted for public viewing on on September 1, 2012. For two weeks, the public can view the videos and “LIKE” their favorite entries based on creativity, originality, and inspiration. (Hopefully, viewers will also SHARE these videos with their friends and social networks to help the good news Go Viral!)

The opportunity to LIKE your favorite video closes at midnight CST on September 16, 2012. The three (3) videos receiving the most LIKEs on will be featured online beginning September 22, 2012.


Will prizes be awarded?

Since the purpose of this “Go Viral” Video Challenge is to create videos that you want to go viral, devozine will help you spread your message. The three (3) most-liked videos will be featured on and on devozine’s YouTube Channel, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. These videos may also be featured in a future issue of devozine.

The person or group who enters the #1 Most-Liked Video will also have the opportunity to give a year’s worth of devozine (up to 10 copies per issue) to a favorite charitable organization that serves and empowers young people in your community.


What are the requirements for a video to be eligible?

CONTENT: The video shall be positive, imaginative, entertaining, and appealing to an international audience.

 The video shall be between 15 seconds and 2 minutes in length. The video must be uploaded to YouTube (please include the link to your video on the SHARE YOUR CREATIVE WORK online form). The video format is the participant’s choice as long as it is compatible with YouTube. Production costs and other related expenses shall be the responsibility of the participant.

The video must not invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased. It must be suitable for publication in a public forum for a teen audience and must not contain sexually explicit, obscene, or violent material. Any video that discriminates against nationality, gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, or sexual orientation will not be accepted.

 By completing and submitting the online form to enter their video in the “Go Viral” Video Challenge, participants shall guarantee (1) that they are the original author of the video, (2) that they have all rights to the video and to all other elements (including music and images) contained in the video, and (3) that they have obtained legal and valid permission from the persons depicted in the video or from their rightful representatives.

By submitting their video, participants also declare their permission for devozine to broadcast their video during and after the “Go Viral” Video Challenge.

The name, the copyright, and any other intellectual property rights related to the video are the exclusive property of the participant, and devozine shall acknowledge the fact that the video was created by and belongs to the participant.
