MY FRIEND, I HOLD YOU CLOSE

Sharon Dexter

My friend, I hold you close.
I hear your pain,
I feel your frustration.
My heart is torn in two.

The river of your life
flows over rocks,
around the obstructions
of rapids, cliffs, and roots.

Christ encourages you, and his love comforts you. God’s Spirit unites you, and you are concerned for others.
Philippians 2:1 (CEV)

Right now it’s hard to bear,
but don’t give up.
The time is yet coming:
calmed water, cooling rest.

Your faith is not in vain.
You will live true,
through splendor and sorrow.
I hold you in my heart.

JOURNAL: How do you love your neighbors? Begin a list. “Loving neighbors means comforting them, encouraging them in faith, . . .” Add to the list each day this week. Then each week, choose an item from your list to practice.
