God Carries Me

Hannah Beaven, 15

One set of footprints in the sand,
a broken heart and empty hands,
I called out, but you were not there—
only loneliness and despair.
I bowed my head, looked down in defeat;
but I was surprised to see your feet!
Then I heard you whisper, “Child, stay strong.”
I realized you’d carried me all along.

Your eyes watching over me,
your ears listening to my pleas,
your arms holding me dear,
your hands wiping away my tears,
Your life saved me from sin.
Your blood made me new again.
Your body broken for me.
You love your children for all eternity.

Two sets of footprints in the sand:
father and child, holding hands.
A promise never to leave my side.
A promise never to say goodbye.
And as the oceans begin to rage,
as fear begins to find a place,
as waves threaten to sweep me off my feet,
I’m safe with your arms wrapped tightly around me.

I will take care of you. I created you.
I will carry you and always keep you safe.
Isaiah 46:4b (CEV)
