Creative Work

Kristee Ravan

They crowd at my door, pushing,
eager to see what I will unpack.
I am the new and interesting one,
the wealthy American with four suitcases.
I hide my annoyance, try not to roll my eyes.
Don’t they know that I’m not wealthy?
Not in America. No pool, no guest bedroom.
Nope. No way. I’m not wealthy.
But I do have what they have not.
I have a laptop. I have electricity.
I have dental care. I have a college degree.
I have many different clothes to wear.
I have, I have, I have.
The list goes on and on.
There are so many things that I have and they have not.
But there is only one thing that matters.
I have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. They have not.
Will I tell them the good news?
Will you?

PRAYER: Dear God, you are the giver of all that matters. Help us to share the good news of your Son with those who have not heard it. Amen.
