If I Believe . . .

Craig Mitchell

If I believe
that Jesus
was God,
I can believe
that God stepped in
to change our world.
The cosmic power
that made the stars
dropped in to say
“Hi! Let’s be friends.”
So when I doubt
that I have got
the power to change,
I can trust
that God’s power
is available,
can change me,
and others.

If I believe
that Jesus
was a real human being,
with flesh and blood
with sweat and pimples,
with parents and teachers,
I know that he knows
what I’m going through.
If he could
get it together,
I can believe that
I can too.
If he was really real,
then his example is real,
and he can show me
what’s worth doing
and worth forgetting,
what’s worth hoping for
and worth giving up,
and who I can be.

Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!
Romans 8:39b (CEV)

If I believe
that God chose
to die on a cross,
I can believe
that God would do anything
to help me find out
how great life can be.
I can believe
that God’s love
is so awesome
that nothing
will stop God
from loving me—
nothing that
I have done,
nothing that anyone
has done to me,
nothing that
I will ever do.
Nothing will stop God
from loving me.
