My Brother, My Hero

Fiona Eichinger, 16

Only the weak men, coward and callous,
glare with disdain on innocent prey
and accrue in their minds a foe of malice,
a deed resulting in their own heart’s decay.

Only conceited and hardhearted men
choose to detest the lost, aching human
and leave the enemy to crouch in a den,
yet all the while they claim to be Christian.

My brother, my hero, strong man embodied,
sees an equal through eyes of love,
leaves all customs of revenge defied,
keen on forgiving and rising above.

My brother, my hero, mercy his goal,
reaches out a hand to the needy soul.
