Creative Work

Donny Ingraham

We need a holiday
free from remembering pain
I’m tired of remembering the fallen
people dying for no reason
fighting to achieve equality
We need a holiday
free from all we know about terrorism
segregation and class distinctions
political leaders’ taking from the poor
We need a holiday
that won’t remind us of the death of our people
that is unrelated to violence
a holiday in which everyone lives
We need a holiday
when the poor have enough to eat
everyone has a job
and we can walk the streets in safety

TAKE A HOLIDAY: What if instead of distrust, enmity, discrimination, putdowns, division, slavery, and violence, we shared with all people love, grace, mercy, compassion, justice, truth, equality, peace? That would be something to celebrate!
