STANDING UP TO SHAME

Zachary Jorritsma, 18

Sometimes, guilt puts a weight on my chest
and I think I’ll never come out alive.
Sometimes, God’s promises are a distant hope;
and I listen to the whisper of wickedness.
Sometimes, I think no one knows the real me.
Sometimes, healing is slow.

God shows me the meaning of faithfulness
and shows me what hope looks like.
I am learning to stand up to shame,
to confess when necessary,
and to lean on forgiveness,
knowing that thanks to the cross,
I am not what I have done.
Jesus, I need you more each day.
