Creative Work

Maureen Eaton

I see your hand in all of creation;
In the symmetry
of a delicate December snowflake
and in the mystery
of its one-of-a-kindness;
In the perfection
of a spider’s new-spun web at dawn
and in the secret strength
that suspends it in air;
From the miniature masterpiece
of a butterfly’s wings,
once hidden
within a caterpillar’s shell,
To the grandeur
of oceans spanning the globe,
the wonder of waters
that ebb and flow;
In the rhythm
of day becoming night
becoming day again,
and in the mystery
of time itself;
In the vessel
that is my body,
your dwelling place,
that you knit together
in my mother’s womb;
In the cross of Christ,
my Creator and my Savior,
whose outstretched hands
were pierced for me.
I see your hand in all that you have made,
for you are the symmetry
and the mystery
of creation.
