Creative Work

Kelly Ann Malone

Abolish thoughts of self-distrust.
Instead of “Never,” say, “I must.”
Select a road you’d never tread.
Delight in what may lie ahead.
Look forward to the unexplored.
Instead of punish, think reward.
When good intentions miss a beat,
pretend each sour note was sweet.
Defy “I can’t,” and say, “I will.”
Dig up your dusty social skills.

I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life.
Deuteronomy 30:19b (NIV)

Good things might come to those who wait,
but treasures find those who create.
Seek out the dreams outside your door.
Achieve these goals, then find two more.
Explore the tunnels never searched.
Forget where you were safely perched.
Create the life that’s in your soul.
Instead of half, consider whole.
Think fresh when you begin each day.
Choose life—and God will show the way.

REFLECT AND ACT: What are some specific ways that you can “choose life”? Try a few of these ideas in the weeks to come.
