Creative Work

Eliza Witherspoon, 14

Lord God,
Why, when I pray, do I hear my echo
instead of your voice?
Where is your strength when I need it?
Why do I feel the only one listening is the wall?
Why do you sit there silently?
Why do you watch me struggle?
Why don’t you slow the madness,
take away my burdens?
How do I know you’re there if you stay silent?
Why do you let my doubts continue?
Why should I even bother to pray?
Oh, I see, Lord.
If only I had listened,
if I had been silent,
I would have heard you
calling my name and saying,
“In times of stress, I strengthen you.
I was with you the whole time.
Good will come out of this, my child. I promise.”
