Waiting Grace

Sudha Khristmukti

Waiting with bated breath,
fingers crossed,
I pace back and forth;
and time moves so slowly, Lord!
I demand immediate answers—
Yes or No—
rushing you with my expectations.
But you nudge me to quietly wait.
Waiting wears me down,
and my faith begins to waver
when I wonder if you’ll ever respond
to my desperate pleas.
But I learn that it is in the midst of
confusion and uncertainty
that waiting teaches me
the immense value of patience
waiting asks me to trust completely
in your wisdom, in your timing
when I’d rather have my way.
