Well Done

Alissa French

Success to me
cannot be measured by
wealth that will dwindle
or clothes that will fade.

Success to me
comes from the beauty within,
the kind words spoken,
the lives that are touched.

Success to me is
persevering though the road is long.
having faith in a world of questions,
hoping in the midst of trials,
loving in the face of persecution,
forgiving although the wound is deep.

“Well done, good and faithful servant! . . . Come and share your master’s happiness!”
Matthew 25:21 (NIV)

Success means not living for myself
but for the one who gave me life—
being thankful for the air in my lungs,
for the ground on which I walk.

My success is measured by God
and can be revealed only by these worlds:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

JOURNAL: Define what success means to you. Then write God’s definition of success. How do the two compare?
