TAB Member Jon Miller talks about the TV show “Chuck”

Jon Miller, 18

Nothing is realistic about the TV show Chuck, which may be why I find it addictive. Chuck is a nerd-turned-secret agent, who unwittingly becomes the first user of a super-agent program called “The Intersect.” Soon Chuck becomes the most valuable as well as the oddest agent in the CIA.

“Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct?
 No, they have no shame at all;
they do not even know how to blush.”
Jeremiah 6:15a (NIV)

The show’s unrealistic story line draws my attention, but the suggestive material and premarital sex make me wonder, Where do I draw the line when it comes to what I watch and what I allow into my head? Shows like Chuck can be fun, but they can also be harmful to our spiritual lives. TV shows are sneaky. They can tear down our values without our noticing. Let’s be careful about what we watch so that we don’t ever knowingly give ourselves a reason to blush.

In Review:
 What are your favorite TV shows? Would any of them make God blush? If so, maybe it’s time to change the channel.
