Do you ever struggle to feel close to God? I do. But I am discovering that this struggle shows how much God cares for us.

We are created to enjoy life with God to the fullest. When something comes between us, we feel a sense of emptiness because we are made for relationship with God.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
James 4:8 (NRSV)

God loves us enough to place within us a yearning that can only be satisfied by God. When we feel distance from God, instead of being discouraged, we can view this feeling as evidence that God loves us and wants to be closer to us.

FOCUS AND ENGAGE: Sometimes my daily devo seems to be just one more thing on my to-do list. To focus my attention, I change my environment. Designating a special place for my devo time creates a visible reminder that I am about to do something important and sacred. To help me fully engage, I begin with prayer: “My God, I give you this time. Please let me feel your presence in this space.” What small change can you make to ensure your daily devo is more than a checkmark on your to-do list?
