Spiritual Practice

Katy Steele, 22

I haven’t dated anyone in two years. On some days, I see my singleness as a gift; life is an adventure, chasing after dreams. On other days, I want more than anything to be in a relationship. Being single becomes increasingly difficult as I get older and more of my friends are in dating relationships, some talking about engagement. I feel left out of the dating game. Afraid, I even start to doubt God’s plan.

I was at a worship retreat listening to the song “How He Loves.” I reached over to grab my friend Kelly’s hand; and suddenly, I experienced deja vu. I remembered a time three years earlier when Kelly and I had just started college and had held hands during the same song. My eyes filled with tears as I realized that God had put the most amazing friends into my life, orchestrating the way I met my best friends from grade school to college as well as the neighbors who introduced me to Christ. I heard God say, “I have always put the right people in your life. I have always been faithful. I will keep being faithful.” Overwhelmed with thankfulness, I realized that I don’t need to worry about whom to date because God will put the right person in my life when the time is right.

Love comes from God.
