God’s Joy

Nathan Mazzuca

I built a tree house, which is pretty amazing, I must say. I can climb in it; my sons enter it and transform into Iron Man and Batman, and my daughter holds tea parties on its floor. I love what I have made. I implemented my plan and created something with my own hands. I love when other people enjoy it, care for it, and protect it.

“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.”
Hebrews 1:10 (NIV)

If I turn exactly 180 degrees from my beautiful creation, I see Mt. Rainier, which is God’s glorious creation. The mountain’s beauty, majesty, and scope are more than I can comprehend. It makes my tree house seem small, but the lesson is utterly clear to me. God made the mountain, as well as the earth, trees, oceans, rivers, and streams. God laid the foundations of the earth, and all of creation is the work of God’s hands. Imagine the joy God feels when the earth, God’s own handiwork, is cared for, enjoyed, and protected.

THINK ABOUT IT: What have you created that helps you understand God’s love for creation? How will you care for the earth?
