Joy in the Lord

Leah Bryan, 21

I am a confirmed giggler. If somebody tells a joke, makes a sarcastic remark, or hiccups in the middle of a yawn, I melt into silent smiles that inevitably morph into uncontrollable, childish giggles. I can’t help it. I try so hard to keep my amusement inside, yet my love of laughing eventually wins out. My friends tease me about it, especially when I laugh so hard I cry. A classmate recently asked, “Leah, why are you always happy? You’re laughing or smiling all the time.” Naturally, I giggled. Then I answered, “I’’m not always happy, but I have too much joy inside to keep it to myself.”

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
John 15:11 (NIV)

As a child of God, I have been given joy that is beyond comprehension. No matter what is going on in my life, I find a reason to be thankful; and God usually helps me find the humor in each situation. I imagine that Jesus had a fantastic sense of humor. The king of the world probably cracked some hilarious jokes and laughed with his disciples. I can hardly wait to see the sparkle of joy in God’s eyes and to hear the love of laughter in God’s voice.

LAUGH WITH THE LORD: Enjoy a belly laugh or an attack of the giggles today, and imagine Jesus laughing with you. Ask him to help you find a reason to laugh and to be thankful in every situation.
