LEAVING HOME

Joy Eva Bohol

I was nine when my mom decided to become a pastor. She told the family, “Whether you allow me or not, I will follow Christ’s calling. I will go!” My siblings and I were confused about what was going to happen; but after a while, my dad agreed. My mother has served faithfully as a pastor for fifteen years now.

GC2012-1 InsideIn April 2010, I was elected National President of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship in the Philippines. Being the president meant moving away from my hometown, resigning from my high-paying job for a job with no salary, and leaving my family and friends to explore a new life in a new city. My dad was hesitant and advised me to decline the position, but I knew that God had called me and I would follow. Years ago, my mother had inspired me to follow God at all costs. In this situation her advice was the same: “Follow where God leads you. It will be the best and wisest decision you can make!”

Peter said to [Jesus], “We have left all we had to follow you!”

ACT ON GOD’S CALL: Is God calling you to go? Don’t wait. Follow where God leads.
