READING THE GOSPELS

Growing up in the church, I have always heard what a great friend we have in Jesus. But I had no idea what that meant. I pictured Jesus as an angry ruler who threw the moneychangers out of the temple and who called the Pharisees vipers and fools. How could someone like that be my friend?

4G inside
One day, during a sermon at church, our pastor challenged us to read the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. He encouraged us to focus on Jesus and the works he did. I took the challenge and read all four books. My view of Jesus changed completely. I watched Jesus weep over the brokenhearted, heal the sick, feed the hungry, hug the children, and show mercy to sinners. For the first time, I saw Jesus as a friend.

I pray that you and all of God’s people will understand what is called wide or long or high or deep. I want you to know all about Christ’s love, although it is too wonderful to be measured.
Ephesians 3:18–19a (CEV)

GET TO KNOW JESUS: I challenge you to read the four Gospels, focusing on Jesus and his ministry with others. Find out for yourself “what a friend we have in Jesus.”

Will you take the 4-G Challenge?
