Spiritual Practice

Alyssa Smith

I want to run with you, Jesus. I can’t run a mile on my own, but you can lift me up on eagle’s wings. With you, I can run and not grow weary. I can walk and not faint. I can relax and just breathe. Please enlarge my heart and increase my lung capacity. Please take my hand.

But for now, I can’t run anymore. I am exhausted. Can you hold me while I rest my weary head against your chest? Do you cry with me because you know what I’ve been missing? Perhaps your tears are also tears of joy because I have finally heeded your tender and passionate call: “Come to me, Alyssa, for you are weary and burdened. I will give you rest. You will be radiant and beautiful. Come, run with me.”

They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NRSV)

THINK ABOUT IT: How do you run and not grow weary? How are you learning to rest in Christ?
