Spiritual Practice

Friendship is an awesome gift from God. People need love, and they enjoy finding other people to connect with, laugh with, and lean on when life gets tough.

I have been blessed with a few close friends, but I am beginning to realize that friendships change and evolve. While I’ve been off at college, one of my friends has gotten married, and another is moving to a foreign country for a new job. I never imagined life without these friends nearby, and I’m having trouble accepting that my friendships are changing.

Yet, what a blessing that my friends and I have been presented with such wonderful opportunities. We are all individuals with our own paths to follow and our own duties to fulfill as a part of God’s plan. Staying in one place for fear of losing our friendship wouldn’t be good for us.

There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24b (NIV)

Thankfully, we have built strong bonds that will help our friendships endure, even at a distance. I also pray for new godly friends to be brought into my life. And most important: My best friend never leaves my side. Jesus is my constant companion and confidant. I am grateful for the love and support of Christ and my earthly friends.

PRAYER: Thank you, God, for friendship. As we grow, bring new friends into our lives; in the name of Jesus, our truest friend. Amen.
