Spiritual Practice

Chase Martin, 14

Chase with Cassie FtrMy life changed forever when I found out I had Type 1 Diabetes. I was in fourth grade when I started losing weight and feeling tired all the time. At first, I was scared; but with God’s help, I have become stronger and grown closer to my family and friends.

My pastor asked my family to talk with our church about our experience. I was nervous speaking in front of the congregation, but I told them, “I know that God will use my diabetes for good.”

Chase and MaxI’ve had diabetes for three years now. I still get tired— and angry sometimes. I have to check my blood sugar seven or eight times a day and wear an insulin pump all the time. Sometimes I ask God why I have this disease. I hope there will be a cure one day.

Yet, I know that God is using my experience for good. When I spoke at our church, a man listening on the Internet had just been diagnosed with diabetes and was struggling with all the changes he had to make in his life. After hearing my story, he decided, If that boy has the courage to deal with it, so can I.

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 (NIV)

THINK ABOUT IT: Everyone has something, and I’ve got diabetes. With God’s help, I’m going to do something good with it. How has God brought good from your problems?
