What Do You Value?

Erin Sweigart, 17

Success today is defined as a great job, a mansion, a sports car, an electronic device for every aspect of life. But God wants us to share our blessings with the less fortunate.

Instead of buying the biggest house in town, we could help rebuild homes destroyed by natural disasters. Instead of buying the latest gadgets, we could donate toys for children who have nothing.

While society defines success in terms of lots of stuff, in God’s eyes, success is helping others and making a difference in the world—or, as Jesus put it, helping “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40, NRSV).
