Spiritual Practice
WHAT IF?
I love reading. When I read, I see new worlds. I imagine myself in wonderful places, having exciting adventures and experiences I could never have in real life.
Get a glimpse of the new world in Isaiah 58:6–14.
The same happens when I read the Bible. I imagine being there, seeing what the people in the stories saw. Sometimes I long for the kingdom described in scripture and imagine what life would be like if it were already here. For example, Isaiah 58:6–14 describes a perfect earth; and I imagine what our world would be like if that vision were a reality today. There would be no poverty and no war. Everyone would trust God completely.
What if, instead of just imagining the world described in Isaiah’s vision, I also acted to make it true now? What if I fed the hungry, talked to the lonely kid at school, and worked to become closer to God? What difference could I make? I don’t know, but I know only one way to find out.
ACT ON IT: What is your favorite Bible passage that describes a perfect earth? Imagine what it would be like to live in a perfect world. What could you do to help make that vision a reality?
