WHERE ARE YOU, GOD?
WORLD TO GOD:
Where have you gone? Make yourself known.
You promised you’d never leave us alone.
You didn’t mean it; we should have known.
If you’re really there, why don’t you care?
If you don’t mind,
would you give us a sign?
GOD TO WORLD:
You ask for a miracle
and search for the truth,
but you’re not sure where to look—
which cranny? which nook?
So you look everywhere,
and you want something rare.
You don’t even notice the everyday miracles:
a child’s giggle, a worm’s wiggle
rain’s symphony, sweet as honey
strong trees, a nice breeze, big seas.
Open your eyes and realize—
true love, stars above
animals, plants
the ability to dance
the birds, the bees
anatomy—
I’m there, in it all.
Your eyes are too small.
You dig and dig for something big.
Look at the little things I give
for you to enjoy while you live.
Can’t you see? That’s me.
“In him we live and move and have our being.”
Acts 17:28a (NRSV)
ACT ON IT: Look for God in the little things and in the joy of living. Keep a journal or a photo gallery of the times and places you see God.
