Why Give It Up?

Hannah Miller, 14

Every year when Lent rolls around, I try to give up something. When I was younger, I’d stick to my lenten resolution for about two weeks before forgetting the season altogether. Now that I’m older, I have a better understanding of and reverence for these forty days before Easter.

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:10b (NIV)

During the season of Lent we remember that Jesus Christ died for us. He sacrificed his life so that we would be forgiven of our sins. Now when I give up something during Lent, I try to remember why I am doing so. I am sacrificing because Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for each of us: He gave up his life so that we may live eternally.

ACT ON IT: Give up something for the 40 days of Lent, remembering that Christ gave his life for you.

What are you giving up during Lent as a way of remembering Christ’s sacrifice for you?
