Spiritual Practice

A picture really is worth a thousand words. With the push of a button, we can freeze time and put a world of words, thoughts, and ideas on display in one 4×6-inch frame.

When we take a photo, thousands of pixels that represent thousands of words all point back to one Word. Everything in creation points toward the Creator. A photo of the sky declares the glory of God. A photo of your cat proclaims the work of God’s hands. A photo of your little sister reflects the image of God in which we all are created. A photo of a car reflects the creativity God places within us.

Visio divina, or “divine seeing,” is a practice that invites us to see God through images. Choose your favorite photo from the #devoseen week, and spend some more time with it. How is the photographer using the image to display God’s glory? How is God using the photo to speak to you? Record your thoughts and observations in a journal.

PHOTO CHALLENGE: Whether we’re looking at photos or taking them, photography is a creative way to focus on the glory of God. How might you display God’s glory in a photograph? Share your favorite photos with us on Facebook and Instagram. @devozine #devoseen
